This Experimental Image explores my relationship with my mother and uses a personal image to narrate my childhood memories with my mother before all the quarrels and problems started between us. It was based on a story I remembered from my childhood with my mother. We were living in a village at the time, during a sweltering plum rain season, my mother took me to step on the baby toad in our village and told me that it was a harmful creature different from a frog, and she took corpses into water pipes under an unbuilt artificial hill nearby. I think this may also be her resistance to the modernization process which continues to erode her life and the spatial-temporal changes. As I grew up, my mother's attitude toward toads and frogs made me think about what is really beneficial from a human perspective. Frogs became a kind of prophecy and foreshadowed the constant bickering that my mother and I had in my adolescence. When I went back to the place where I lived in the past, the self-built house I lived in when I was a child had been demolished and turned into an artificial river, only two trees in the village are still there.
